  • odd transparency

    Hi

When I use a map on my plane and set it to enviroment/screen and place a box on top of it, and then render it, it seems so if the box get a litle bit transparent, and shows the map diffused,
In this case the tree top is shown on the box, the same place it would be seen on the plane if i deleeted the box.

Does anyone know why... please help on this, i just dont get it

we had a similiar problem on our last/current work that using screen to do some "shops" (in a shopping center) it would "imprint" part of the map. it happend when we forgot to changed the map of or shop_layer for a given camera.

what i think is that while using screen mapping when calculating gi, it seems it ignores the boundaries of object, and uses the "screen" has an object. i would give a cleary example but my images are confidential right now, because of an NDA.

(edit) totally forgot, i don't believe its transparency.

Well i did a quick test and it seems to be a "bug" maybe in the gi handling th screen mapping.

maybe valdo can shed some light into this.

yes thats exactly my problem, i foun out that if i right click on the plane and sellect Vray properties, and then turn down the "generate gi" or shuts it of, then there is no problem, but of cause i want to use the ground gi, typical.

                Hi Ark_3D,

I think that you can't use environmental screen to map geometry. It's supposed to be used only on backgrounds. That's why you're having "transparency" problem.

well i did a test with mr and it happens the same with gi on. with it off it renders ok. an option would be using "camera map per pixel" map. but i must change to default scanline before setting the to this map or max will crash (or at least it what happens to me), after that i can switch back to vray.
