  • noisy area of image

Can anyone give me suggestions of what to do to remove the noise. I could, of course, up lots of settings, but I only want to up those absolutely necessary to remove the problem areas as most of the image looks fine for my purposes.

    My settings:
Primary: IMap: Medium preset, 30 Hsph, 15 Interp samples
Secondary: LC: 1000 subdivs, rest of settings default
    AA: Adaptive QMC 1,4: Mitchell_netrevali
    Raycaster: max depth - 70, min leaf - 0.5, Face/level - 2.0

    Any tips would be appreciated
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

What is the material of the problemmatic object? Are you sure you don't have any overlapping faces in that region?

The material is a plain Vral material, with diffuse colour 240,240,240. No reflections. There is no overlapping geometry.

Is the problem there if you render without GI?

Its difficult to tell because without GI, the scene becomes very dark:

If you have large vraylights in the openings with "store with irrad map" checked you might try increasing their subs to around 50

i thought if you check "store with irrmap" the subd value does not have any effect...

I do have large vray lights. I will try your suggestion. My render time is already nearly 6 hours (4000 pixels accross) , and I don't have much time left.

Nope, they DO have effect... So the suggestion of RErender - can be a decision....

As a general rule I would suggest that if stored is checked to up the subs, it can avoid noise with little impact on render time.

Unfortunately, having rendered the scene again with 50 samples on the large Vray lights, the scene still seems very noisy in the same region - in fact, there is pretty much the same amount of noise, just rearranged slightly.

                      Any other ideas?

not exactly sure on how to fix your problem, but try this.

Use render region so that you dont have to render the whole scene just to see if that little bit is fixed. (you may already be doing this but just incase your not, thought i would mention it.)
Try putting on a play gray vray material on that object and just render that area see if it makes any difference.
Then try putting another light pointing straight at the object so that its in direct light and not 100% bounce light and see if that makes any difference.

This may give us some idea as to what is causing it.

                          Hi tricky

Your interpolation samples could be the cause to this problem ... Because it is a dark area and the interp samples are low this may cause blochiness in some area's ..
