  • Urgent issue

Hey all, have just contract a virus on our server, it is the machine that holds the vray advance license, looks like I am going to have to do a format and re install as the virus has just screwed the system.
Which is great cause I am in the middle of an animation and my deadline is fast approaching.
Question is, am I going to be able to get another license as I will obviously lose the one I have.
    Has anyone had this problem?
    Thanks

Get AVG Antivirus free edition. Then reboot your system into safe mode. Try killing your virus that way. Chances are if you know about it, then you can delete it...

        reality3d:
What virus and trojan is it.
Plus what are the files that are infect?

I deal with this stuff all the time, and have never had to reformat a computer to fix a virus.

So if you can give me as much info as possible I should be able to help you fix this without needing to format the machine.

The trojan was Oleloa I have delete that,
          but the virus is W32/Alemod.e.dll

          it has affect the wininet.dll
When I go to reboot the system, I get an error saying couldn't intialise EXPLORER.EXE it the continues the boot till I get a black page with just a background image. the only thing I can do is pres Crt+Alt+Del and get the task manager up.

that tools should solve the virus infection but you will first of all need to replace the explorer.exe file. That could be kinda tricky.

What i suggest you do is. copy explorer.exe from another computer with the exact same version of windows and put it on a floppy disk or cd or something. Load into windows on the infect machine and then bring up task manager and goto file then run and choose the drive where you have the explorer.exe file so type d: if its the cdrom or a: if its the floppy and hit ok. That should open windows explorer. then its just a matter of copying the not infect explorer.exe over the new one just by browsing around.
If you are unable to bring up the drive with the clean explorer.exe file on it let me know and we will have to work out a way around that.

Also what time is it there? how much more time do you have to spend on this today? Or will it have to wait till tomorrow.

it's only mid day here, I shall give that a go now.
I don't think it is running out of memory, as it's showing I have 500meg left free when it goes. Also normally if it is going to run out of memory it does it during the light cache part, this is doing it during the irr map or the render.
                  BTW thanks for the help

As for the memory issue. Vlado posted this awhile ago.

I think that this is not directly related to the light cache subdivs, but to your render resolution; a 5000x3750 image would require about 700MB additionally to render in ppt mode. Currently VRay tries to allocate this memory in one continuous block - it is possible that this will often fail. It might work if you restart 3dsmax though.

So i reckon your memory was just partially full or fragmented.. Try restarting and having any non essential programs closed.

                        yep, Gold Coast.

I tried that, unfortunately it allowed me to copy over the new explorer, but not run it. just has same error " Failed to initalize"
