  • Gamma

I have previously mentioned that my colors, out of V-Ray/MAX, are very hard to control. I have to do so much Photoshop tweaking, which takes time. My workflow is like this:
    1. open raw image (32bit) and layer my elements
    2. export as a PNG (8bit) and do some more color grading - making my colors correct using layer masks
The 8-bit PNG and the 32-bit RAW look the same. The colors are way too bright in both. If I cut from the 32-bit, and paste into the 8-bit, the color is spot on (much darker.4545). If I want to return to the original color, I must change the gamma on the cut/paste to 2.2.

Am I doing something wrong with the gamma? My gamma is MAX's default.

I use PSD Manager to save my images and all the layers and elements.

Photoshop is rubbish for 32bit editing, there’s nothing you can do about it. Why don’t you simply use cryptomatte to perform color corrections? Is so much faster..

I use cryptomatte, but I feel like I have better control in Photoshop. I can paste the actual color into a layer mask and play with blending mode to get it right.
