  • Antialiasing

    Hello,
    1. I am working on an animaion which has cables and powerlines and at certian points in the animation sections of theses cables and lines disappear. I have to go with a fixed rate of 7 subdivs to correct the problem. Anything lower and I'll get sections disappearing. With a fixed rate of 7 subdivs this is dramatically increases rendertime and I was womdering if there is anything else I could try that would give faster results.
    2. Also, just as a general question I was wondering what are the typical settings for irradiance map presets in animations. I always end up with "flickering" and I usually use the medium-animation preset. Most of the time I just dont have the time to bump up the settings to the highest preset. Is this just the way it is. Are the highest settings the only way to get rid of flickering? I have never really used global photon mapping...is it good for animations? I really like vrays results for still imagery but for animations I cant seem to find consistancy at a reasonable rendertime. Any tips are apprecieated.
    Thanks,
    -joe

this shows 2 frames in order where the problem occurs with everything revomed execpt the cable and load. a similar problems occurs at different points in the animation at different points on the line. i'm not allowed to upload any animations though. the line itself is a cylinder with path deform if that helps. however the problem occurs with a renderable spline as well.
      thanks again.

Have You tried using different methods of anti-aliasing BUT the <<Fixed Rate>> ???

yes, i started with adaptive subdivision, tweaked those settings and then moved on to the other other options of simple two-level and fixed rate...finding a solution with a fixed rate of 7. i didn't really know what i was doing with the simple two-level options though...never really used it.

from my experience adaptive subdiv -1/2 with thresehold 0.01 may work in these cases

lowering the threshold to .01 seems to do the trick and it is faster than the fixed rate method.
              much thanks,
