  • IPR cut off settings?

    Hey
I've been in maya for years but now I have a max project.
Sadly it in 5.x but never the less...

How on earth do I control for how long IPR renders? Where are samples cutoff/etc? Nothing seems to work :/
    Thanks!

Hi, first of all, its recommended to take a look to the manual, it wont be exactly the same as Maya
for IPR configuration you need to use Progressive Image sampler, there you can set max render time or if youre using Bucket you can set moreless with noise treshold
I think that for samples you need to set Global switches to Advanced.
    Hope this helps

      Hey
      I have
also looked at https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAX/IPR+Options and https://docs.chaos.com/display/VMAX/V-Ray+IPR
Sadly none of them really point me to a an answer.
Yes I have tried your settings

        Your settings are extremely high
10,000 subdivs? noise treshold of 0.001?
you can set it to default and it will be ok
        100 subdivs and 0.01
how much time do you want to set?
Forget to ask, which version of vray are you using?
things have change a bit from vray 5 to 6 so maibe you need to set global switches to the next option, I think it was Expert in order to have more options

Well now you see my problem... Im on 5.2.x latest v5
With 10k subdivs I still get noisy IPR image. If it was not for denoiser/etc it would be hard to use.
So this must not be the setting that control when IPR stops rendering. There is no expert mode, only advanced.

Well having Vray 5 its not really the issue here
I think your just wasting time, its really diffcult to make noise dissapear (specially on interiors but it deppends on the scene), its better to use Denoiser (Intel gives me much better ressults than Vray).
Like I said, Default settings are ok in most of the situations, in my case, I only modify Noise Treshold about 0.03 for final renders, to test I use 0.1
IPR stops when completes one of the 2 setups: Noise treshold or Assigned time, make a test from 1 min, just to check how it works

              Hey
mmm struggling to believe in that... maya can get pretty usable/clean renders in IPR to judge material/etc.
Max now is just being useless with whatever settings hes using to stop IPR progression.

Just a thought, are you using the production rendering (in progressive mode), or interactive rendering within the V-Ray Frame Buffer?
