  • Partial vrimg help

Doing a 30k render using vrimg following the "rendering large images" guide. The preview is tiny.. and the render ETA is 30 hours. I won't have time to rerender if it's wrong, unless I set it now. So I want to check the partial vrimg.

However if I open a new max, and hit "open file" in the VfB, it opens a blank screen at the top it says 100% 1x1 image.

The file is 1.5gb on disk.

This worries me greatly as I thought the partial image should be openable? If I have a corrupted or non usable file I'll be in big trouble. Plus I need to check it.

First time I've used this workflow.. didn't realise the small preview of render would be soooo small!

Another thing, it's not applying my VfB corrections. I hope I'll be able to load the finished vrimg to VfB and apply them then?

i tried opening the partial vrimg (now at 2.3gb) in chaos player, it loads but i get red bar along the timeline and nothing on the screen.. is this expected behaviour for a partial tiled vrimg? i thought you could view them? help kinda urgent.. how do i check if my render is working?

      Hello Robin,
You can try opening the file with File > View image file in 3ds Max or maybe try vrimg2exr; if none of these work, send me the file and I will see what I can do.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

Some update for the forum: there was a bug with the .vrimg file reader for the File > View image file... option and once that was fixed, I was able to load the .vrimg file and show the result to Robin.

          Best regards,
          Vlado

ok that is great, good to know the file is not corrupted, however i will need to open the file here. i cannot obviously fix the bug in the max file viewer, and i still find that i cannot open the file with either max file view, vrimg2exr, vfb, chaos viewer (actually chaos viewer randomly opened the file once afer being left sitting for about 15 minutes after choosing the file. .. however i have been unable to do it since, even leaving chaos viewer sitting for hours with the file "loaded" i dont know if this is due to the partial file or something i will still be stuck with when this infinite render finally finishes..

ok quick update to say the final file opened just fine. so there is some issue opening partial vrscene files using the various proposed methods, but in the end, my render was ok.
