  • vray6 vrscene compatibility

i tried to find a simple clear answer to this, but which 3d packages have a version of vray compatible with 3dsmax vray6 vrscene files?

I'm guessing the ones that list vray6 as the version, but some of them, (vray for blender, vrayfor unreal etc) dont list a version number...

ive got a client complaining that they cant use a vrscene file in their software.. ive asked what they are using, but id like to give then a definitive list of software they can definitely use my scene with.

I'm curious about you giving clients your source files. Do you charge a premium for that?

well technically vrscenes are not source files, being relatively speaking non-editable they are quite useful for providing finished assets.

in any case, the job description is to provide digital twins of physical models for future use. (wether those files will be useful in 10 years is another discussion, but since they require realistically shaded models with quite complex material properties, i dont have a lot of choice..)

for this client i generally provide a couple of high res stills, a couple of turntable renders under interior/exterior lighting, and a vrscene file they are free to use. its part of the job spec.

ive done another couple in past years and nobody has complained, however i suspect this year is the first time theyve actually decided to use the 3d asset for something and have discovered they cant open it in photoshop.

Vrscenes and overall V-Ray stuff are usually backward compatible. Obviously, newer features will not be available on older versions and won't render. In which host platform is your client trying to import the .vrscene?
