  • Maxtree translucent leaf material (Vray Next)

We have these Maxtree models on our library, I'm having a look at optimising the materials.

Does this leaf material seem overly complex? The Vray Material has translucency map and Hybrid Model translucency but then it also feeds into a Vray2Sided material (which has force single sided checked). Does the 'force single sided' checkbox not make the translucency in the material slightly redundant?

Looking for a steer on best practice here, I know we're slightly in the dark ages being on such an old version, but that's out of my hands. I'll be making non-translucent versions of these materials, but I do need to get the original materials working well to start with.

We're using Vray Next. We render with Lightcache and brute force most of the time, if that makes a difference.

For my experience this is how you can achieve more realistic leafs materials in Vray next.

Just not sure I understand the point of the translucency on the VrayMtl, if the 2Sided is going to 'force singe side material' anyway, although it does seem to have a slight effect on the preview, so I guess it's doing something!

Theorically its not needed because youre controlling translucency with vray2sidedmtl color, but in practice you´ll notice better ressultw when enabling hybrid translucency in the vray material, color will spread better to the model, Ill recommend you to do some tests, if you find that its not worth it, delete them, this old method was really not practical, but its worth it.
