  • Visible to GI

Could you give a quick explanation as to what this button is, and how it differs from Receive GI and Generate GI - if I have both Receive and Generate turned off, what will Visible to GI mean.

    Thanks
    Kind Regards,
    Richard Birket

    Hi tricky,

The answers to your questions are:

#1/ Receive and Generate GI - that controls the amount of GI distrubition for the
object itself... If You raise or lower them, that means that object either will produce more or less GI...

#2/ As for the Visiable to GI - that means if your object has that turned off, it would be exactly the same as it was hiden before running the GI calculation...

a great example is for people who prefer an inversed dome for the sky but always complain that it blocks out the vray environment light. with this check turned off then it wont be visable to the GI calculations.

Following on from this thread, we use a lot of ForestPro plants, grass and shrubs in our scenes. The GI on these items contribute very little to the the overall look of an image. The pre-passes on areas of dense planting can take a long time. How should we optimise these sorts of objects to enable the GI of the overall image to calculate more quickly?

Maybe, simply by reducing GI subdivs multiplier of your Forestpro plants, grass and shurbs objects will do the trick I think.

            BTW, interesting new option http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...Global-Subdivs
