  • Render Setup (F10) very slooooow!!!

I have a problem when I open Vray Render setup (F10).

When I press the icon or the F10 key, it takes about 30 seconds or more to open and I don't know why that is. Is this happening to anyone else?

    I have 3dsmax 2024 and Vray 7 hotfix 1

Thank you very much in advance.

It's probably due to the license. Can you access the manager? Is online licensing active?

      Hi,

Yes, I can access the manager perfectly and the license is active.

I send you a screenshot, I think everything is correct.
I have installed Vray again but everything is still the same.

Could you help me with this?

      Thank you so much

Do you have any other render engines installed like Corona? I remember I had a slow down (but that was years ago) with Corona installed.
        A.

          hi Vizioen,

No, I do not have a crown installed.

Thank you very much for responding

Sorry for the late reply. Is the slowdown still happening? Have you tried reinstalling V-Ray or the license server? Usually, slowdowns such as these happen because it searches for a license - if the search is slow, the menu open will be slow.

the only thing I can add here, is that I've noticed V1 Threadrippers were super slow to open the Render Menu. And that Intel Chips are always faster than AMD at this.

What are the clock speeds of those AMD and Intel processors?

Roughly similar clock speeds though Intel does have the advantage, there's not enough difference to account for the delay IMO. Threadripper v1 was bad, Threadripper Pro was much better, but now I've gone to an i9 I'm happy again.

Hmm, no complaints here with 3970x and 3990x, F10 opens within 2 seconds, even with quite low clockspeeds comparing to i9.

Honestly, given how often we have to open the render settings it is really annoying that chaos chooses this as a time to check the license— every single time. They should check the license the first time the dialog is opened and cache this result for a reasonable period of time, like 30 or 60 mins.

Better yet, the license check should be in a separate thread that can be run asynchronously, and not make the user wait— ever! When licensing interferes with legitimate user workflow it is being done wrong. People are going to find ways around any licensing— so why inconvenience paying customers?

My delay is not too long here, and may just be Max’s slow processing of the dialog. But I run a separate license server, with all licenses always borrowed for offline use. So there is never a call to the Internet to check the license, just over the LAN.

That's one of the reasons why I scripted all the settings I need to change very often (like switching between bucket or progressive, disabling displacement,..), I barely open the render settings dialog anymore. All the rest (saving) is controlled with Pulze Scene Manager.
