  • Difference in appearance between 3ds Max and Cinema 4D

    Hello,

we are testing the consistency of render appearance between Cinema 4D and 3ds Max.
Using the same settings, we are not achieving identical results.
The render from Cinema 4D appears more contrasty compared to the one from 3ds Max, as shown in the attachment.

All settings have been matched, and we have no idea why this difference is occurring in the final render.
I’d love to hear if anyone has any ideas about why this difference exists in the final result.

    Thank you!

    Best regards, Prima

My guess is the HDRI has been loaded with different gamma applied.

Indeed, look at the chrome ball: the HDR light fixture on the right is markedly darker in c4d

I’ve done several tests in the past and results were virtually identical, haven’t tested with latest build though..

Thank you all for your responses.
To eliminate differences caused by HDRI map settings, we are sharing tests that do not include HDRI lighting.
Please note that we are using default settings in both programs. We observe differences in saturation.
Additionally, there is a contrast difference in shadow areas. It seems like it might be related to GI settings.
