    Hello all,

Has been a long time since ive posted however i have a question. Im currently working on a walkthrough animation and ive been using incrementa in all my walkthroughs i use. However this time around i am trying out some walkign people. Ive read that you must calculate the IR map by frame and can not use incremental. I am wondering if it is ok to use incramental if im using just animated textures of people on planes. Or will it not work? Most of the people are just standing around talking and making small movements. There are a few people walking but again they are just animated textures on a plane. If not im looking at 10 minutes a frame over 600 frames.

    Thanks in advance!
    Ryan

thinking about it, your people do not recieve or cast any gi in the scene? if so you can exclude them fron Recieve/Cast Gi and do your incremental.

      hmmm i havnt excluded them....

they are just simple animated textures with alpha channels etc. cheap way of doing it but is somewhat affective with moving camera and moving charaacters...

so its best to just exclude them then?
perhaps i shall give this a try ...

      thanks!

oh should i exclude them from the direct light or anyother lights i have in the scene? i have one direct light hitting on the people...

should they be excluded from casting shadows aswell?

well, light does not produce gi...so if they are casting shadows that can be left, does your light illuminate these people? i thought they are usually self illuminated.

hmm ok i will try taht out...

i have a question it would make more sense to do incremental every 5 frames versus doing the every 10 frames correct? since well im having both the camera move and objects in the scene moving.. or is there really no point to this?

im looking at a 7 hours ir map render.. i have a direct light for son plus a few downlights with inverse square fall off on those lights

thanks for all your suggestions though they are greatly appreciated and i will definitly give them a go!

i only have the animated planes and then i have 2 or 3 planes moving along with the animated textures on it to give the appearence the people are walking. those are the only things moving. THe other planes with the animated textures are just people standing in groups chatting with only hand gestures and the like.

well if all your objects that are moving are people then exclude them, and you dont need to do increments of 5 over 10....if 10 produces good result.

ok i excluded all the people from receiving and generating GI...
and am running the IR calc just now with every 10

I will let you know how it works out ...

                    thanks for all your help!

I suggest to do a quick test to know. So you dont have to waste time on the whole thing.
