  • Houdini - ABC Workflow

    Hello Everyone,
I have a question for somebody who might use Houdini to sim things for 3DSMax/Vray.
I am able to get everything to import just fine, I make sure to rename the file directory when I add the vrayproxy with the #### at the end of filename and its perfect.
Issue I noticed. When I send the job to the farm, at random times the nodes will say they cannot find a file. Then they find it and work. I use my render farm all the time and I know for a fact the issue is not the farm its something to do with these filenames being ### instead of a proper name.
Any tips/tricks to make it link better? My output has many abs files thus I need to use the ### workflow,

Okay so I noticed its only on Frame 0. The rest seem to load/render just fine. But the first frame seems to fail for whatever reason.

    Thanks in advance!

Nevermind. I am an idiot. I just noticed Houdini started my frames at frame 0001 not 0000, thus making frame 0 in max non existent making perfect sense.
    Thanks all!

Yeah. I hate apps that start at 1. Why Houdini would do that is beyond me, as it’s more for programmers, who count from zero!

Nukes like 1 too. Ways around it both, of course. But other people tend to use the defaults, meaning you get files that start at 1.

Best to set a standard and tell everyone to use the same at the beginning of the project.

hahaha yeap, lesson learned. Now moving forward any project I am doing which would require houdini I am just going to start my timeline at 1, less issues this way. =)
