  • Vray Scatter functionality

    Hi all,

I'm trying to use Vray Scatter more than Forest Pack as for me it seems much more responsive. The only issues I have is when you wish to change the frequency of more than one object at a time, this doesn't seem possible. Also, it would be pretty handy if the instanced models section was a bit more manageable, ie. you click on a button and it would open another dialogue box that would allow you to change the frequency, turn off some items and so on.

I wonder if anyone else has these small issues and whether the devs are planning updates to this?

    Thanks,

    Jason

There's a frequency parameter right below the Instanced model objects menu.

There's no dedicated menu for this; however, when you click on the [...] button in the objects rollout, it opens the 3ds Max native exclude/include dialogue, in which you can "turn" objects on/off.

The frequency option only allows you to adjust one at a time, so let's say I bring in 20 chairs, 20 plants & 20 people, I want to frequence all the people to say .1, I would like to do them all at the same time, I believe this can't be done? One has to go through each one manually.

The native include / exclude works fine, I appreciate you are somewhat limited to 3dsmax and it's archaic include/exclude option, would be good to have a specific Scatter menu.

The other small thing is under the Scatter object you can only ever see 4 objects in the list, this causes a slow down production.

      Thanks

I'll mention all these suggestions to the Scatter team. In the meantime, here's a simple script with which you can mass-override object frequencies on a chosen ChaosScatter node. Try it out.
