  • Searching for that perfect tree...

Playing with Onyx/Vray last night and came up with this. Probably the best trees I've done, but still somewhat Shrekish. I have my own thoughts on what may be causing this, but no easy solutions.

C&C???? (Please include suggestions for improvements too!)

i think one this all 3d trees are lacking in is roots. trees dont just go directly into the ground without any disturbance of the groundi like to see big on gnarly oak trees hehe. those trees have plenty of character

Yup. That was my #1 as well. Onyx doesn't do roots. May have to model a few and attach them. What a drag.

I think the trunks need a little more variation as well. And definitely a better trunk map.

What do you think of the leaves?

Play with the "trunk mold" option to get roots, or at least a good taper.

Forgot about the old trunk mold. These trees have it (althogh tough to see).

I made some changes to the leaf material. You like leaves better in first image or this one? Or are they both junk?

Also, I experimented with some fog on this one, and realized I had shadows turned off on the first image.

you can delete your leaf then remake them with PF to put many different leaf ramdomly.
here an example not very good but it works very well!

Actually you can replace leaf objects within treestorm without converting them to mesh

You just need to add leaf sub objects in the adjustmnet panel then select those and goto the modify panel there you will have the option to replace it with your custom geometry

is tree storm the same as the onyx program except it works entirely inside max? or is it just an importer for what you create in the onxy program?
