  • reflection antialiasing

I have project of building with metal quadratic panels with glossy reflection on the facade. I have used bump map to make panels becouse I dont have to be close to the building to have displacement so the bump is ok for me.
The problem is that the lines between panels are disapearing and it looks like very bad antialiasing problem.
Sometimes I have same problems with nikal materials becouse global antaliasing settings doesnt affect reflection antialiasing.

Where do I control antialiasing of reflections of vray material.

You use the same antialiasing settings as usual. What are your AA settings now?

    Best regards,

adaptive subdivision min rate 1, max rate 3

The thing is If I put the material in diffuse slot the antialiasing of the lines is ok, but if it is in bump slot I get bad antialiasing and I can explain that only with the reason that the material is reflective and in max scanline if I remember right antialiasing for reflection was zero by default , you had to use area filter or some other in material to change that.
Is there separate antialiasing settings for reflection in vray becouse I couldnt find any.

kpavlov, there are no separate aa features for reflections, however, your problem might lie with in bump texture of the reflected object and antialiasing filters you use. For example I had case of flat surfaces which had to have metal polished texture on them. The antialiasing was flickering and very undefined bump map was produced. I resolved this (with help from vlado) by changing the bump map's blur to a lover value (default 1.0) I have set it to 0.4, and used quadratic filtering to smooth out any side effects.
One other thing you might want to try is qmc sampling, as opposed to adaptive. Try qmc with 1/4 and qmc sampler with noise of 0.003 global subdivs multiplier 4.

Thanks your sugestion helped me but now I get more noise in reflections, how do I reduce noise.

are you using hdri to reflect into your metal? in my case hdri played fatal role. I ended up bluring it to reduce noise. Also, noise is dependant on shadows cast onto surface and obviously qmc sampler. If you have vray lights casting area shadows turn up the samples there. With qmc sampler, I suggest working with the noise amount and global subdivisions more. This however will affect your render time. In my case, I had to go with these values:
            adaptive amount (early termination) 0.8
            noise 0.001-0.002
            global subdivs - 16
            global subdivs multiplier 5-8

also qmc aa set to 1/5
My render time with those settings was around 40 min per frame on 2kx1.5 k image with no gi on.
            Hope that helps.
