Does anyone know if standard materials will be fully supported with light cache in the final release?

They will be supported to the extent that they are supported now - meaning that they will be a lot slower than VRayMtl for this purpose. I'm afraid this is something that cannot be "fixed" due to the way V-Ray interacts with non-V-Ray materials.
However, in the final version, you can override a material for the GI phase. So, you would be able to use a VRayMtl for the GI, and a standard material for the final rendering.

In that case is there any plans for the VRAY material to have a self illumination channel? About the only time i would really need to use a standard material would be somthing along the lines of a cealing grid (typical office) were i have the main cealing grid in the diffuse with the light units in the self illumination.

ID1: VRayMtl - for the Grid...
ID2: VRayLightMtl - for the lamps...
If I got your question right, of course...

Yeah good call! Ill give that a try and see how it works.
Also, is there any way of controlling the colour bleed on a per object or material basis? I know you can use the saturation setting under the GI roll out but this affects the whole scene but sometimes it just the odd object that it would be nice to tone down the colour being emitted with out affecting the overall light being bounced off the object. Is this something that might be added in future releases?
