  • Top/Bottom material?

Just wondering if the standard Max Top/Bottom material is as computationally intensive as the Blend material? I've been using the T/B material for leaves and haven't noticed any render speed difference between using a single material or a T/B. So, I'm guessing the answer is no.

I've been using T/B material on leaves too. I haven't done any comparisons, but I haven't noticed a hit like you get with a blend either.

top of leaf = leaf top texture bottom of leaf= leaf bottom texture im guessing

Well... Not that I'm saying this is a great example, but here is one I was playing with.

Those leaves have no bitmaps. What I was using the top/bottom for was to experiment with a more realistic leaf. If I recall correctly, I had a slight opacity from the bottom side, as well as a lighter color, and a smidge of self-illumination. The tops were a darker more saturated green with a bit of very blurry reflection for a waxy leaf look.

I liked the direction this was going, but got sidetracked on an actual project. And then I saw that the new vray has a 2 sided material for just such applications (http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ghlight=leaves), so I haven't pursued this method any further.

(BTW, ignore the render time. I was experimenting with a bunch of different parameters all at the same time.)

                i like your tree a lot !

Did you do the geometrie yourself or can you tell me where did you get it from?

                thanks
