  • more memory?

    Hi,

I am about to render a 2000frame walkthrough and have pre-made IRmap at the ready. I am getting UH exceptions when rendering final frames and am 99% sure its because the memory is running out - (at about 1.7gig in task manager) - Its a big model with loads of maps.
I am about to purchase another 2 gig of ram to overcome the problem - will this work and is it as simpel as adding more ram? .. Im running Windows XP Pro.

    Many thanks....

You might try switching to "dynamic memory" in the system rollout. If you buy more memory my understanding is 3GB is the limit with xp32 and you need xp64 for more than 3 GB. Another thing you could try is converting parts of your scene to proxies. Much fewer memory problems.

When you do a search on the forums for the 3GB switch, you'll find a lot of info about memory issues.

You will have to use the 3GB switch in the boot to be able to use more than 1.7GB.

You might try making some Vray proxies....saved me on the project i'm working on now....wouldn't render at all without them....as soon as i converted the objects it rendered it fast. Give it a whirl first...

Although i dont really know how much memory u have in your system, I´m assuming u have 2 Gb. If u added 2 more Gb it wouldn´t make any good to your renders, because xp pro won´t use them, even if you are using the 3gb switch.

You can try the proxy thing, imho is the best option if u can afford the time involved in proxyfying all the problematic objects.

If not, u could always switch to windows xp 64, providing that your computer allows you to install it. This way u might use all 4Gb for rendering.

It will use another GB of RAM if you enable the 3GB switch.

                Well.....

Ive sent back the 2gig of extra memory i bought and got refunded.
To be honest I am gobsmacked that with so many powerful applications around; and our friend 'moores law' pushing hardware so far that MicroDick Corporation would release a Pro OS with this limitation. If there is a rationale behind it, then i stand corrected. In the meantime im swamped in a renewed cynicism.

                thanks for the help anyway.
