  • Weird; wacky stuff...

I can't even begin to explain what's going on. I have a simple revision job that should have only taken me an hour, and I'm now in my third bashing my head on the desk. I restored my old project folder, copied the max file, made all the revisions to it and hit render only to find that it won't finish a single bucket. It just hangs endlessly. If I cancel it, the buckets fill with a very nice image... I feel like I'm in bucket PPT mode if there was such a thing! I've done crop renders all over the frame to find something that will render -- no success.

I did this job two months ago using the same copy of max, the same version of VRay, on the same workstation. NOTHING, literally nothing has changed. I'm switching through every combination of indirect illumination now to hopefully find one that works, but crikey.

Has anyone ever had something like this happen? Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Shaun

That's what I'm doing now, recreating my render settings from scratch. Man am I pissed, this is NOT what my day was supposed to be! It's gonna be one of those weeks...

the first thing that comes to my mind is that your qmc settings are too high, or maybe some settings in the system tab. Can't give you a clue though why that would happen, but it seems most likely as you say the rendering is in fact making progress and turns up after cancelling.

Like Lukx said, try to merge into fresh scene or settings, then you know for sure if it's not just a weird setting that has gone wrong

agreed...merging is the solution, what you can do is save a preset of your settings then load it in render dialogue or your merged scene.

Thanks guys. I dunno how the settings could have been screwed up... the job rendered fine two months ago. Oh well, at least it's a still and not an animation...
