I am considering a Gateway Laptop that uses "XP Tablet PC" as the OS. Has anyone experienced any problems using Vray with this OS?

I dont expect there would be any problem, but then again as I have not used that version of windows with vray so i cannot be so sure.
If anything max would be the main problem not vray. And i cant see max having any problems.
But again pure speculation, hopefully someone else around here has used it... doubt it tho

So thats "Yes. No. Yes. Yes. No. Maybe. Possibly. Dunno."

we have a tablet PC we use for info collection on the buildsites. I see absolutely nothing OS related that could interfere with vray.
However i wonder what the specs are on the laptop with a tablet OS. in my head a tablet PC is not suited for rendering.

XP home or professional
It is a tough one as I would not imagine they build that kind of note book for doing heavy applications like 3ds. Maybe they guys at autodesk would be able to help out, they are usually pretty helpful. If you don't have any good re-seller near you I could drop an e-mail to the guys out here in LA. It is worth a shot.
I would be interested in finding out your experiences with the tablet as I am considering one myself. I love the idea of the flipping screen. Great for sketching out idea's.

tricky:
Yes, exactly... well kinda.. look im not sure.. actually your right.
I dont see how xp home and pro would make any difference to max at all. The main differences are mostly networking related and the number of cpus that can be used.
Seeing its a laptop thats not an issue. If you get home or pro both will be fine.
Also XP Tablet OS has all the features and functionality of XP Pro SP2, plus the added tablety goodnessso you will be fine anyway.

Response from Vincent at Autodesk
I sent an e-mail to Vincent Brisebois ( one of the head Autodesk guys on the West Coast) out of interest to see what his thoughts on tablet PC's was. I got the following response -
Hey,
Most tablet pc's are 1 ghz cpu's which really suck for 3d and I know of none with decent graphics cards...
I was looking into it a month ago and found nothing that would run max adequately... I didn't see anything at CES but there may be some newer high powered tablets now...
Lemme know what you find but you need a minimum of 2Ghz and and ATI or nVidia for max to run correctly...
V.
It would appear that the hardware more then the OS is the main concern.
So if you are satisfied with the hardware specs go for itKeep us updated on your experiences.

Its a powerful notebook (2.17 Ghz, 2G ram)
Thats what yeeha68 said in this last reply
So it seems like he already has that hardware part covered except for the video card... they all seem to have Integrated IntelĀ® Graphics Media Accelerator 900...horrible for 3d. But probably not thaaaat bad
Mind you i couldnt find the 2.17ghz one that yeeha68 was talking about.

Actually it was 2.13Ghz...
You need to customize the laptop, and starting from HOME, or SMALL BIZ, or Mid&Large BIZ catagories offer different choices. The Mid@Large Biz options for the M280E offer the following:
)IntelĀ® PentiumĀ® M Processor 770 (2.13GHz, 533MHz FSB, 2MB L2 cache) [ +US$480.00]
)2048MB 533MHz DDR2 SDRAM (2-1024MB modules) [ +US$450.00]
)ATI Radeon X600 64MB Graphics w/ HyperMemory Technology [ +US$100.00]

Thats a fairly decent notebook for the cost.
