  • Need some help with ani comp

I need to wrap this up, and fast!

The job is to show a driveby of a proposed supermarket to depict the signage mounted on the building. The developer is trying to show that the township's standards are too strict, and that the sign will not be visible. So what I was hired to do is to produce two videos. One will show the building with the small signs, and one will show the building with the proposed (larger) signs.

My main question is whether I can do this in pieces and comp it together rather than rendering the wohle thing out twice. IOW, I'm wondering if I can render the large signs in one pass, the small signs in another, and all of the rest (bldg, trees, site, etc.) in a separate pass.

If so, can someone walk me thru the steps or point me to a tut? IE, how do I account for the trees which pass in front of the sign? Does the masking of each separate pass take moblur into account, or will I have weird edges around comped objects? How do I go about precalcing GI in this situation?

Here is a shot to show you the idea. The signs in question are the red ones on the far building.

ccs, what you have asked is not simple to explain. That is probably why no one has answered. Nor is it simple to understand and do. But as you have said you are on the right track of thinking. I.e. you can render the signs on separate pases. Comping them would require to render mattes from objects that would be infront of them. You can use vray mtl wrapper with alpha contribution set to -1 for those objects that are infront of the signs. I dont see any problems with edging or motion blur that can occur if this is done correctly. However if you are pressed on the deadline, and have little experience with compositing I wouldnt suggest going this rute.

        Thanks Dmitry.
That's what I'm thinking too. Better safe than sorry. Not sure whether I have time to render both versions though!

Since all that is changing is the sign, I'm hoping I can get away with using the same precalced GI for both.
