hmm thats pretty cheap for aussie dollars. I was going to pay about $550 per opteron 265 chip.

Would you guys use these new intel systems over a dual opteron for your workstations?

Yeah prices arnt too bad until you get the the high end ones... eeek

Hard to say, i would think not until the conroe have been out for awhile and tested so that we know what we are getting into. I would still prefer a dual 280 or quad 880 ATM if money wasnt an option.

But assuming the conroe is stable and as good as it looks, i see no reason not to use it as your desktop machine/rendernode/whatever.
