  • Vray material settings export utility

    Hey Folks,

A few people asked for some kind of tool to export vray settings to a text file so here's the first version of it. At the moment it only does material settings, I'll put up another version tomorrow with the render settings and maybe the light settings the next day. If anyone has any thoughts or feedback please leave them here. The script is fairly simple, you run it, customize your ui and select vrayinfoexport from the "John O'Connell tools" category and make a button from it. Click it and you'll get a dialog where you can choose what parts of the settings you want exported. Choose an output filename (it doesnt add an extension so you can call it .txt or whatever - its plain text) and then hit export info.

You can grab it in the "stuff" section of my site - please excuse the lack of other content since it's just been redone and I have to get some work back from archives to fill it out with content.

Looking good mate, will try it out when I get home.

What are the export options available, like would it be possible to export to an excel file or something or even in html format?
Just thinking in terms of layout, a text file isnt exactly the greatest in the world. Also I know its early days yet but just thinking a little ahead.

      Thanks

ooh yeah.. cool sea script.. could you fix the links so i can try it out .. or just email the suckah to me

Yeah that should be fine - I like the idea of a html page actually since txt if a little daunting for large amounts of info, it'd be easier to present stuff than excel too - good call on that. I've got a few things to sort on the sea script yet, particle flow integration etc. but it'll be up quite soon.

Not just at the moment - it's pretty much a scripted version of a sea surface I set up for an ad a while back so there's no tricks in it, just a dragable object that keeps the ratio of parameters I used together. What would be really interesting would be trying to link it with dimos csg work or use it with the vray plane primitive. I'll try and dig up the sky settings I used for the render btw, they're the main thing in that image.

I really like this thing. Just one tiny question: the output must be easy to read and printable

Okay, There's a newer version that outputs everything to a html format file - You need to add the extension .htm or .html to it so your browser will pick it up straight away.

I've added in proper formatting and headings to make it easier to read, plus at the start of the file you make it generates a list of the names of the materials in the scene and each name links to the parameters of that material. There's plenty of back to top links to make your life easier to navigate too.

If anyone has any thoughts on formatting or how we can arrange this info please shout - if you hate the colours / arrangement then please shout.

I'm on to render settings next so it'll probably be the artistic look bases settings first so aa, gi, colour mapping and camera first with stuff like system settings and rqmc after. It shouldnt be too long to do so hopefully I'll have it this evening but otherwise it'll have to be tomorrow evening - I'm having a few problems with my work internet connection gettig at my site to update stuff...

Again its up in stuff at http://www.joconnell.com

                            Looks good mate.
Possible not quite how i imagined it layed out but still good.
Are you able to export the html into tables...etc?
What sort of control do you have?

                            Coming along very nicely

Again just a first pass, if you have any thoughts about the layout maybe do a quick html or photoshop mockup as an example so I get what you mean?

going through the irradiance mapping settings right at the minute so should hopefully have the gi types done tonight. Globals, indirect illumination and aa are done so just camera and colour mapping after that.

control wise it's any standard html layout tools so tables or css - if you give me an example of a lyout or parameter order I'll look into doing it.
