  • Fake Glossy Refraction?

I am struggling to make an interior hallway render with white translucent doors.... I can't show you anything cause nothing has rendered....

I have a vray material with a refraction value of 200 and glossiness of .7

I have tried to crank down the settings to the lowest possible, and I still can't finish a LC calculation (at 1/4 final res)!

    Using interpolation now @ -5,-4 .5,.5, 10 samples...QMC, etc...

    What else can I do?

Oh - I unchecked the fog options, which seems to speed it up a little bit...

make sure the glass isnt generating GI that will speed up the lighting calc.
the other thing you can do is not use a glossy value and have the refraction colour a mid-dark grey

Turning off the GI made it much darker, almost black, and more opaque.

Sydney = http://www.lunavision.com.au/ - they are on this board too.

          Did. Didn't work.
I kept messing with the settings, in no particluar order.

Finally I modified the geo to be a single plane - I don't think this looks as good but is way faster.

The interpolation didn't effect the time as much as i thought. About 5 mins on a 30 min render. Now at -3,-2, .4, .2, 25 samples, and looking pretty good.

I did turn the refraction value up to about 240 - and a little more blurry.

Still slow, but I can live with it.

Maybe the "double-sided" option is on?

Try switching that one off leaving the door as a "box" and see if it gets any quicker...

I'm sure it impacts rendertimes when fog/translucency is on, not sure for plain glossyness...
