  • 1.09 - 1.46

A customer of mine wants a new image of an old job I made with 1.09.
    Now I have 1.46 and max7
    What can I do?

    1-Can I install 1.09 and 1.46 together in max7?
    2-Do I have to install 1.09 and max5 because 1.09 doesn't run in max7? can max5 and max7 work together?

    thanx

Quick answer is no you cant have the two running at the same time - the two sets of plugins will fight with each other.

Max 5 and 7 work fine together - I run both in work although I dont use 5 anymore. 7 files wont work in 5 as you know. Other than that, vray 1.09 can use the same license as vray 1.46 so it's only if you try and use both in max 7 that you get problems.

    P.s. get 1.47 - it's a lot better than 1.46

Yeah the easiest thing for you, without running in to troubles, is to install max5, install vray1.09 and then do the render. Unless you will need to do many more corrections in the future, then it could be better to try to switch to 1.47. You can be sure your render will look different in 1.47, and you will need to tweak a bunch of settings to get it to the rendertime of 1.09.

there's a way to get both vray versions working under one max version... Just copy your max root to another directory (c:\3dsmax7_2) and change the paths in plugin.ini and 3dsmax.ini accordingly. install 1.47 to the first and 1.09 to the second max dir. now just create shortcuts to both version and go for it.

            thanx to everybody.

@flipside: yep, you are right, the same scene rendered in 1.47 is very different. I tried to adjust the settings but the image in 1.09 seems faster and with much less noise.
