  • Autocad, Max and Vray

So far I have modeled with Rhino and I have no troubles, but for a project I'm going to model with Autocad.
Are there any problems with the exporting from Autocad to Max?
And are there any problems with vray and vraymaterials (2 sided materials, normals, etc)?

    thanx

Hope this helps...I import AutoCAD dwgs often and have found a combo that works pretty well...
First, in CAD, purge and audit the dwg. Save dwg in an isometric view.
Next, import dwg format into 3dsmax...a usually leave everything unchecked...good luck. Only problems I've encountered were flipped faces, but is fixed by adjusting the import options in 3dsmax...

Using file link in Max works great with .dwg's too.

If the model is small enough, I like to model in solids because then you don't have to worry about normals problems. But if you do model in surfaces, just make sure you create them counter clockwise, or else you will have to do a lot of normals flipping in Max.

Also, if two closed bodies (eg. two cubes) intersect or have a coincident face one object will have its faces flipped. If you 'union' them in AutoCAD or separate objects by a few mm first this doesn't happen.
