  • lens flare effect?

    Hello everyone,

Its been a long time since I posted anything. I have recently relocated to Dallas from reNEW ORLEANS.

I was hoping someone can help me get started ...........

I need to do an animation with the classic lens flare effect coming from a light source. There is an example at Joseph Kosinski's website under work tab: called ispec with a movie trailer.

    http://www.josephkosinski.com/main.html

I thought I would start with a lens flare, but its almost like a volume light. I've never done either effect.

If anyone has any "spare time" and could look at the example, I would appreciate any help to get started.

    Thanks,

    Arkitec

Ahh yes, the famous KDLabs... too bad they broke up.

I don't know exactly what method that they used to achieve that look, but I 100% guarantee you that it involved compositing and was not a straight-out-of-3dsmax rendering.

It's a few things all layered. take a look at here fore glow stuff - http://www.neilblevins.com/cg_educat...ular_bloom.htm . It's got a knoll light lensflare on top of it which is done in after effects and tracked to the movement of the light source outside the window. Lastly there's a volumetric light which can be rendered in the scanline (make everything in the scene black and use a shadow casting raytrace light with fog) and then composited over uising screen mode in after effects or another compositor.
