  • Blending HDRI's

Hi everyone, im trying to find a way to blend hdris for an animation.
I have a series of sky probes that have been taken over a period of time from paul devbec.

Does anyone have a script to blend 1 hdri into the next?

I remember vlado did a similar thing a little while ago.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appriciated.

Do you want to load them sequentially ( use an ifl) or blend them? Won't there be two suns if you blend them?

yeah i would think just a sequence and not blended.. that way you could have the sun move over the sky.

If u want to create a hdr sequence like vlado did, u only need to rename all the files sequentally with a number at the end. This way max will take it as an animation instead of individual frame thus using an image every frame. The trick is use the bitmap loader instead of vrayhdr map. You still can select a hdr file from the bitmap dialog, but it will use the splutterfish loader instead, so u´ll have to adjust the black point and levels stuff.

newer versions can read an ifl into the vrayhdri but not sure what version it started in.

thanks for the replies guys, i have already loaded the *ifl of the hdri sequence, but the results are too harsh when they change from 1 hdr to the next.
I will try to post up an animation with what i have

the blendIMG.exe vlado posted worked to blend HDRIs in case of PPT rendering (ie averaging them out to get a cleaner result, much like NL copied a couple of weeks later for the Maxwell thinghy).
Unfortunately it wouldn't output HDRs, but only pngs, so that it would prove fairly useless to use in your case.
Also, there was no wighting parameter to pass to it, so the blending would always be proportional to the number of images blended (ie. 5 images, each has a 20% weight).

I could suggest you to convert them from HDR to TIFFs, and then fade at will in something like combustion, or fusion, or AE7, if that works.
You'd also have a lot more control (you could change the intensity while blending, to avoid two stark suns at 50% mix).
And you could output FP TIFFs or anything that suits your task...

thanks for that info Lele. I might put something together in AE7 and give it a go.
                  Will keep you all posted
