Vue trees and opacity

Ive searched this forum and cant find what Im looking for. I have an exported (3ds) tree from Vue. Standard mat works good, a little slow, but not bad. Everything Iv read about opacity in Vray says that it faster with the Vray mat. I put the mask in the refract slot, IOR to 1, and even tried inverting the mask. No luck. Very slow. What am I doing wrong here ?

Any suggestions ?

Hi Mike,
Put the opacity map in the opacity map slot under the maps rollout in the material; not the refract slot.

If it was a snake, it would have bit you.
