  • vray fur and rendertimes

ive searchd all through the archive and havnt been able to discern what im doing wrong. im trying to render a very simple item with fur used to make a sort of uphostery material. i saw someone do a seal that looked pretty sweet, i think the rendertime was just a few minutes. i have not succesfully even made it through prepass 1.

    what am i doing wrong?

by the way im on a 2x3.0 xeon with 2 G. ram.

i can post the scene as soon as i can get max to quit.

so i figured out one problem, a residual vray displacement modifier that i was trying to use to make the upholstery previously.

now i get to pass 4 then it stops.

      heres a screenshot

any help would be greatly appreciated

make sure that the object you are putting fur on has enough geometric sub divisions. For example, if your putting fur on a plane to make a rug, make sure your plane has enough subdivs like length = 15 width = 15, rather than 1 x 1 or the default 4 x 4.

You using per area, so vray will have to be subdividing the faces a great deal more if there are less of them.
