  • Baked lighting workflow vs Brazil R/S

    Hello all,
First post, new to Vray and loving it. Quick question trying to recreate a Brazil R/S workflow in Vray we use for certain projects.

We used to bake all of our ligting using scanline radiosity, then build "Brazil Advanced" shader that would have diffuse info in the diffuse channel (map channel 2) but provided an "Extra Light" channel we would use for our lightmaps (map chanel 1) with geometry exported after RTT. This also worked great for glossy shaders where you need the render specific material.

Now that we have replaced the scanline lighting component with Vray, we would like to also use Vray for rendering the actual footage to take advantage of the faster glossy reflections/refractions and the Adaptive QMC AA sampler but can't figure a way to build the shaders that use the lightmaps in a material that can also implement glossy reflection/refraction. Am I overlooking anything? Thanks for any help.

im afraid you will find this as a dissapointment, that is that vray mat doesnt have a diffusion slot.
For us, we have adopted a way where we use a plugin called sciana comp to composite the diffuse lightmap onto the texture. Its not ideal but it did the job for us.

hey, thanks for the response. I kind of guessed by reading through similar threads you'd be the one to respond.

I've "sort of" got something working provisionally here where I'm using my light maps in the "self-illum" channel of a standard material, lightmap+texture map in an RGB multiply map in the diffuse slot with a vraymap for glossies. I think technically I need an RGB Add compositor for the diffuse channel though. Not sure. Google returned nothing for sciana comp, could you point me to it when you have a sec? Thanks.

using standart max material is not recommended anymore. This will result in much longer render times. Another way is to use shellac and composite vray light material which is the same as individual selfillumination slot, ontop of your base vray mat.
Anyhow here is the link to sciana.

Sweet, 21 different compositors in one map. This seems like a reasonable work-around, thanks a ton.
