  • Material converter from max standard to vray material

    Hi,

Has vray anykind of material converter from max standard to vray. I have 3d cars from dosch design and they have alot of ray trace materials and I guess those are heavy for vray cause I get all kinds of errors if I use more than 1 car in my scene. Converter would take away alot of manual work.

That's not entirely true, raytrace reflections/refractions are deadly though. Best to not use raytrace materials or maps.

This converter works pretty well http://www.scriptspot.com/scripts/we...rter2_info.zip

Thx Rerender. That was one helluva script. It did even convert transparent and reflective materials with correct values.

What version of Vray are you using? In 1.47.3, if you access your right click menu, you'll notice on the bottom just below properties, there s is a feature called "convert to vray scene" or something like that. This will take all standard max materials in your scene and convert them over to Vray materials. I'm not sure how well it preserves the original standard material components, but I use this feature alot for converting older scene files very quickly.

Not sure I helped much, but that seems to be a feature alot of folks here havn't recognized yet.

Has anyone successfully used this script with 1.5RC2? Ive just tried installing it in max8 SP3 with V-Ray 1.5RC2 and I get a max script error stating.

            " --No "">"" function for undefined "

I also get the script error with 1.5RC2 - and had the same problem with the script using 1.5RC1 for that matter.

If the script worked and also converted Brazil materials to Vray materials (and shadows) that would be huge

The material converter was written by http://www.3dzver.ru/main.html unfortunately he hasn't posted here in over a year and encoded the script so it can't be modified to work. Maybe if someone contacts him by e-mail...

I emailed the author but got nothing back. I emailed Vlado and Nikki who said they would look into it.
