  • Faking Glossiness

I have been working with a material that uses Glossiness with a HDR to create a great stainless steel material.

The problem is I am rendering HD frames, which are taking too long to render and I am experiencing some instability with the farm ( a deadline Vray thing ). This steel material is being comped with about 6 other layers so I can afford to tweak it somewhat to increase efficiency. Does anybody have suggestions on how I can achieve a similiar look but get my render times down ?

I am not using anything special in my render settings, there are no lights in the scene everything is coming from a pretty straight forward HDR.

Thanks as always for your help.

well if its only reflecting environment, you could always use a reflection map, thats a blurred version of your hdr.

      First Attempt

That was going to be my first test - we just got the Dosch HDRI catalogue, they have HDRI editing software that I will give a whirl.

      Thanks for your help.
