So, take a MAX scene, terrain, a few buildings, some cars, all mapped, GI and one key light (sun).
Place a camera, which sees all buildings at medium range, place another, which sees mostly one building, closer up.
Same resolution, same everything, using backburner:
- the first camera renders in 6 hours, on a P4 D 830, MAX shows 930Mb P memory used, using bitmap pager.
- the other renders in two days (!), with or without bitmap pager, on a AMD x2 4200+, MAX shows 1350Mb P memory used.
I am puzzled. Why such a difference? I understand the one building close up shot must show more details (mullions etc.), but all in all, that camera only sees 1/3 of the geometry the first camera sees...
Moreover, the AMD normally outperformes the P4 D830 by 10 to 20%...
Suggestions?
Thank you
