  • LC every nth frame ?

Should I always calc LC using flythrough ? I tried using single frame for LC
and multiframe inc for the IR set to every 10th frame. It is a simple 300 frame pan. I got some strange dark patches, and Im thhinking it is LC
    related. Any suggestions are appreciated.

if you mean claculating LC for animations flythrough is the only way. the nth frame thing doesnt work with LC as it would with Imap

Also you will want to make sure your time slider is the same length of your camera. LC flythrough will always use the time slider, no matter what range you may have in your render dialogue box.

also when using flythrough you need significantly more subdivbs as well.. as it spreads the subdivs over the entire animation.

And if you have an animation with a long windy camera path you will need to use world mapping now screen otherwise all your subdivs will be used at the beginning of the animation and non at the end.. whereas world will evenly scatter them throughout

              Thanks for the tips.
For this shot, it is a simple pan (slightly moving). I used 3000 subs. The
shot is rendering overnight. Ill check it in the morning when I get to work.
The company I work for has always used IR/QMC. We are testing out the
IR/LC workflow. We are going to compare the end results and see what,
overall, works better for us. I prefer IR/LC for stills, but......

              Again, thanks for the tips.

              Regards,
              Mike

Ive been doing lighcache on every nth frame for a while now and never had a problems! in fact i find it easier than messing about with the flythrough settings.... can someone explain why this should not work?

                My Method:
I have the Primary set on irradiance and secondary set to lightcache
My irradiance setting are normally somthing like Medium 60/25 Multiframe inc
and my Lightcache is normally somthing like Subdivs 500, Number of passes 5 ad Interp Samples 5 (set to single frame)

I then render the GI making sure it doesnt bother rendering the image every time and render every 10th to 25th frame depending on the animation.

Then render the full animation makeing sure to use the vrmap 'from file' and also turning off the second bounce so it doesnt calculate the light cache again.

I haven't had problems using screen mode for long camera paths (like a trip round a 4room apartment)
maybe I should do some tests... looks good to me

with world scale it samples stuff in the far distance (like trees outside) with equal weight

that setting "passes" refers to the number of processors you have - so dual procs=2, standard procs=1
                  dunno about hyper threaded quads
