I finally have two dual processor computers and am dying to try DR in vray, but i cannot seem to get the two computers to recognize each other using a crossover ethernet cable. Does anyone know of any good sites for a tutorial on setting a simple two computer network up? Also, one computer has xp x64 and one has windows 2000, i dont know if that makes a difference. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!

enable IPX/SPX protocol in network connections. Right click the connection, go to properties, click install, choose protocol, ipx/spx done. Reboot. Enable file/printer sharing. They should see each other after that. Give that a try.

I tried enabling IPX and now the win 2000 machine sees the xp but the xp doesnt see the 2000, i also get a exclamation mark in the notification area saying that there is limited or no connectivity on the xp machine. but im off to a good start!

Did you try running the home networking wizard on the xp box? Next step would be to go into control panel, click on system>computer name>click change and give it a name, plus a workgroup name. default is home or mshome. Then make sure both are the same workgroup name. They should see each other then via network neighborhood. Also see if there are 2 nics in the xp box. Or 2 network connections. If there are, try selecting them and bridging them.

I know this isn't the expert IT guy method of doing this, but it works and is simple to setup. It's also much easier to explain than going into gateway and ip configuration via tcp/ip. It's also an issue between 2k and xp in a 2 machine workgroup to only use tcp/ip for internet and file sharing. IPX/SPX is the quick easy solution.

Yeah i would say make sure you set them up with IP addresses as well.

i just took xp 64 off and put 2000 back on and now everything works, is x64 really worth it, does anyone see and significant speed increases?

I use xp64 for the amount of ram i can use ... currently @ 8 gig.. so yes its worth it.

The ram abilities are the main and possibly only benefit for 64.

Until we have a true 64bit enviroment to work in then this is true. Hopefully not too far away.

thanks natty i only have 2 gigs of ram so then its not worth it for me
