  • grass with the fur plugin for max

I'm having trouble with making grass.

    1) I'l using a vray light as my direct light source and the GI. how can I get decnt lighting and shadows for the gras from these lights?

    2) it's comming out way too big. Is there a way to scale down the hair so all its aspects are smaller. If I just use the scale button it just makes the hair shorter but not correspondigly smaller in other dimensions.

    1) In the effects menu (tab next to environment) change the drop down box from "buffer" to "geometry".

    2) Play with the options some more. Dont use the scale tool, use the options in the modifier.

I tried to use the geometry instead of buffer, but a notice comes up of a
unhadled exception error and asking me to send the scene to vray. If I hit cancel it's fine.

If I hit ok it renders but does not render the grass

Thats because you're running out of memory. Try turning off "generate GI" in the Vray Properties for the hair object.

Yeah your just having a memory problem. The only way the grass will render properly is if its geometry, so you will need to optimise the grass more.. less height segments..etc..etc.. to lower the poly counts so you dont run out of ram.
