  • how to make a glossy material with flat dirt

no it's not a rendering, it's a photo. I'm trying to make a texture that would be similar that has glossy areas and dirty areas covering it making it look dull in places.

I have a glossy material that I made with a falloff map and grey bitmap in the white slider. It work very well, but I'm looking to dirty it up a bit.

    Any idea?

I'd say use a blend material, then use your glossy material as one mat, and a dirt material as the other mat, and create a painted dirt map as mask.

You also could try using a bitmap in the glossy slot.

I agree, blend is the way to go.

Also, it looks like there may be a better blend material in 1.5 comming out in only a couple weeks.

Not only would you need a glossy map to control the glossiness of the reflections, but more importantnly you will need a map to control the amount of reflection on different parts of the train, ie the dirt areas would have zero reflections = black pixel values.
