Thats odd, cause the shadows seem to be ok but just not the object itself. Can you show an image of your material setup.. and your using a vray material i assume. Perhaps turn off filtering for the opacity map and turn the blur all the way down to 0.01

it's a vray material. I'll turn down the blur all the way. How do I turn off filtering?

The filter is just below the blur.. change it to none.

it's still showing up incorrectly. It seems like the opacity part of the map is not allowing the model to render behind it and the background is showing through.

hmmm that is really strange. Its acting like a portal.. lol

Ahh hmmm anychance you could post a small part of that scene so I can have a look to test it out.

Or perhaps start a small new scene yourself and check one of those trees in there and see how it reacts.

I could not upload the file. the FLkr thing only does image files.

Yeah if you see the image it is acting like a portal.

is the opacity and difuse maps the same size as the plane?

                          opacity maps issues

I figured out the prob. the plane which I was applying the map to was extruded but had a 0 thickness. I now gave it athickness and the opacity works fifne and it renders fast. Before it was going very slowly and not working right.

I'm now going to find other similar geometry and redo them
