    hallo dudes!

    i know ... this is once again the good old subject "gamma correction"!
    but there still questions
    i read (i think in a tutorial from vlado):
    "do not use any other colormapping method than 'linear multiply'
    when use vray version below 1.49.30"
    and:
    "do gamma correction in postproduction"

    okay! here we go with vray 1.47.03:

    first image is linear multiply and no touch:



    second one is the forbidden method with the colorcorrect plugin,
    'gamma correction' in colormapping and bright multiplier set to 0.4545:



    the third is an linear multiply saved as an 16bpp image and gamma
    corrected in imageready to 1.22:



    an the last is set to 2.2 in imageready:




    okay. you are confused? me too! four different results ...
    and the winnerquestion is: who are the right way???

    The right way is the one witch is closest to the result you want.

    Use aftereffects/whatever to finish, or you are wasting
    your time,,..if you are not trying to get a vray master degree ofcause.

      I think the first time LWF/all that bollocks clicked for me was when I realised it wasnt there to take over any other methods - its just something you do to change the image closer to how you want it.

        If you've set your Gamma in max to 2.2, the first image - linear colour mapping - if you view this in an sRGB colour space - use throb's curve for example, the image should look like image 4. You can then work inside Max and Vray seeing the image displayed in sRGB space. Save the image, and it will look like image 1 again, as the gamma isn't baked into the image (using linear mapping) but then you correct this afterwards in post - using something like combustion or nuke, or photoshop etc. etc. back to a 2.2 gamma, and the image is the same as viewed in Max & Vray.
