I have a scene which uses alot of vray displacement on the roofs and stone walls...both 2d and 3d displacement. What is the best way to get the render times down? I starting doing a test render, but the IR Map calculation was going all night and only did about a 1/4 at 4200x3150. I imagine it is the displacement causing the slow times since I have practically no glossy reflections.

I assume you've read the thread in hint and tips that outlines the topology you should use for displacement meshes?
Basically, you need to make sure the mesh is made purely of quads, and that they quads aren't too long and thin.Patrick Macdonald

I was thinking about this yesterday. It would be nice if we could select areas that displacement needs to affect. Usually in architectural work you only need displacement on corners bump mapping would work really well for any part of the face that doesnt reveal its profile.
Example - grass you don't need the displacement (at least not the same level of detail) except where you need to see indivudual blades of grass on the edges. It would be nice if you could just select the areas of the image that you need that extra computation on. I am thinking a paint like interface like the poly paint feature with editalbe poly.
Just a wish.
