  • vray 1.5 demo?

word on the street is that Chaos is hosting an RC2 demo.....if so, people could begin to play with 1.5 this way, until their dongle arrives....is this true?
    Talk nerdy to me...

Yeah, I was about to ask that. The demo is in the support section. Can we run it without the dongle?

The demo will run without a dongle, yes.

As with all demo versions of V-Ray so far, it will reset the render settings every time you save the .max scene. You may want to turn the Autosave option of 3dsmax off, as this will cause the settings to reset every now and again when 3dsmax does the autosave.

      Best regards,
      Vlado

I thought that was the actual release? Now I see it's demo. Where is the download for the full version?

EDIT> I just saw the announcement. So the final release isn't available for download yet. I get it now. My thick skull was preventing that announcement from making sense.

Plus the whole, Alpha, Beta, RC1, RC2 etc. thing eludes me.

          Explanation of Development Build Terminology:

Alpha (A): Very buggy build. Usually just proof of concept/design direction. Only developers and a very select group of experienced users should be poking with it. Deffinitely should not be used in production environments.

Beta (B): Somewhat stable build. Usually fairly feature complete, but has known and unkown bugs. Existing features should not change dramatically between this and the final. Usually released to a larger set of experienced users to find bugs. Usually shouldn't be used in a production environment.

RC1 (Release Candidate 1): Everything should be working. If no show stopping bugs are found, this will be rereleased as the Final version. Usually available to at least all the beta testers if not an even bigger audience. Should be safe for production environments but there might be bugs.

RC2 (Release Candidate 2): Some bugs were found in RC1 and have been fixed. Released for additional testing. If no show-stopping bugs, this will be rebranded/rereleased as the final build. Same rules apply as in RC1.

RC3, RC4, etc... Continuation of the RC series as bugs are found that should be corrected before Final release, instead of waiting for a service pack or patch after final release.

It's explained pretty in depth here... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RC1

How do I get at the 1.5 demo? When I go to the support section all I see is the regular 1.5, no demo. I would like to play with the demo until my dongles arrive.

                  Thanks,

                  -Shane

base2studios, thanks I logged into the private area and your link worked. Why can't I see the links myself? Am doing something wrong?

You'd have to create a new non-registered account I think.

yep, this link isn't available to registered users because, well, why would you need it? oh yeah, that's right....when you really Really REALLY want to play with the new version of vray you've been waiting for-EVER for and you can't because you're lacking a dongle of all things! hehe

i doubt it will be long before Vizmasters and others have the demo on their sites for others to download, that's why I didn't think it would be too bad posting this link for now....

Yea, I figured I would need to create a non registered account. I tried that but it wouldn't take my email and I didn't want to go to the trouble to set-up a hotmail or something similar. I have been playing with the demo and its fantastic! So far my favorite new feature is the detail enhancement in the irradiance map and the render elements and the new camera and the sky and the materials and the and the................Great work Chaos!

Hmm, that's odd. I have both the full and demo versions available in my account. I wonder if it's because I had registered for the demo long before I purchased the full version.
