  • 1.5 vs. 1.47 in the middle of a project...Yes or NO?

    Hi all,
before I rush installing 1.5 using my existing license, a question for vlado and whomever has some experience with this:

I am working on this large project, which refused to render untill I proxied out everything I could and switch bitmap pager on on all my slaves...

Now it renders, but of course both proxy and bitmappager just make rendering slower.

Not to mention that I will need to add to the project more stuff, including vegetation!

Now, is it worth it to switch to 1.5 in the middle of all this?
Will 1.5 handle large project better (for whichever reason)?

Is it fully comaptible with MAX strip-rendering? Because I had to also strip my renderings in order to render the large MAX scene...

What about scene conversion between 1.47 and 1.5? is it transparent or do I need to re-tweak the whole thing?

Any other catch, bug, problem with 1.5?

    Please advice,

    thank you

    regards

    gio

Mate...with all that on your plate the last thing you want to do is introduce something new into the equation. I'm sure the rc2 build is as stable as most vray builds but I think youre really asking for extra grief if something goes wrong.

        Dont....period :P

Mind you that quite some things have changed, and that you would have to change a bunch of rendersettings to get the same results/rendertimes....as such all it would do is introduce more possible errors and problems.

        Regards,
        Thorsten

While it may not cause any issues, its best to get everything off your plate first.

Ive got another 2 weeks before I can play with 1.5 at work

While, generaly, I would also say no, I did just that this week. I had no problems. In fact, it made a few things a little easier. Now Im not recomending that you do the same. I just thought I would let you know that the switch was pretty smooth. We are in the middle of 3 projects
at the moment. The main reason that I went ahead and switched was that
I wanted to use the sun/sky for the exterior shots.

            Mike

It really depends. There were some memory fixes with regards to proxies and dynamic geometry in general, so yes, 1.5 may handle this better. If you have time to experiment, then I suppose you can try it. But if your deadline is looming then definitely finish your project first.

              Best regards,
              Vlado

                No I guess..

We had the same problem here as well. With all the nice features RC2 has we finished the project on 1.47.0370 and are now switching after the project was finished.

So you have something to look forward too, maybe makes u work faster

If I waited until I wrapped up all my projects before I switched to 1.5 I would never be able to switch to 1.5.

                    Quick suggestion:
Switch to 1 PC which you may not use in production, do several tests - see the results. If you're happy - go for it.

                    But finish the project first.

                    Best regards,

                      nikki is right.

That's what we are doing. There are several jobs rendering on the farm still using the previous version. I have updated only my computer to test it out and make sure it will work fine within our workflow then I will introduce it to everyone else once the renders are complete on the renderfarm.

This also allows to forsee any problem we may encounter as I test it. (plus I get to have fun while everyone else has the old version, hahahahaha)
