  • FastSSS help

I was hoping someone could give me some advice on the use of the fastSSS shader. I'm trying it out with a closeup model of an ear.
If I get some good answers, I'll compile a SSS faq
    • -Is it correct to say that the fastSSS is primarily for use where GI is not calculated?
-What method of calculating GI is best used with fastSSS?
-What are the best ways to optimise fastSSS rendertimes? (does trace-depth/bias/radius affect rendertimes?)
-When combined with the vrayblend material and a vray material for reflection, what parameters should the reflection and blend materials have?, ie diffuse black or white, blend amount black or grey(default) or white?

    Any hints and tips appreciated!

    Thanks.

Well, you dont need GI as such, you can simply put a fastsss shader into a vray light material to get it working.

Ah yes, but if you are using a scene that uses GI anyway, is fastSSS still a good timesaver over normal translucency?

Exclude from GI would be my best guess for your situation.

          Second Blend Material

Should the second material be like glass with a masking shininess map?
