  • light cache show calculation

just wondering if i'm doing something wrong or right here...
i always turn on the show calculation in my light cache and irradiance map when rendering 800x600 previews. when i go to render a print resolution proof at 4800x3600 the light cache basically grinds to a halt. just by chance, i turned off the "show calculation" in light cache, and now it rips through that stage in a matter of seconds.
is the answer just to turn off "show calculation" when you render at high resolution? or am i missing something that will allow me to see the progress without killing render times?

There's a thread somewhere in this forum says that when rendering hi-res scene u should turn off show calculation. Don't know if this is still the case with ver 1.5, haven't tried yet

And you can consider calculating the lightcache on smallresolution, save the lightcache, and load it again when rendering the actual hi-res image.

        Hi,
i only use Amd x2's...should i be worried? Should the display LC samples be switched off?
        Thanks

yes, i do use an AMD...sounds like you've heard of this issue before?

i definitely think there is just some weird internal processing issue when trying to display the light cache at high resolution. from what i understand, the light cache isn't really resolution dependent, so it must just be a problem with the display.
it's really no big deal since i always confirm my renders at 800x600 before rendering at final resolution. i was just wondering.

a side note: i also turned off the show calculation for my irradiance map and found my print renders came out about 30% faster! good to know!!

Does it on xeons and my p4 at home too.

edit: only on massive scenes though, and not all the time - its mostly alright.
