  • Stainless material

    Hi,

I'm sure this is a common question.....
What is the best way of getting stainless steel like this:

If there is a nice solution could it go into the nice new Vray material resource: www.vray-materials.de

    Cheers, Cam

For that looking you would need:

    (1) a nice texture ( combined in some mix type one )
    (2) strong reflection with proper IORs
    (3) Anisotropy !!!

    Best regards,

or need to elevate a little the point at the center of the cilinder top faces using anisotropy properties of mat with the ward shader of vray and using its coordinate to get the best results
        take a look here
        http://rapidshare.de/files/31169191/..._materials.rar
those are for old version of vray and obviously slow to get clean results

        good luck

Your material looks okay. Its probably the geometry. The chamfered cylinder is smoothed in such a way that it ideal for a stainless material.

Im also curious about rendertime. The stainless we've created takes quite a long time to render because we have to oversample it so much.

Are you checking the Use Interpolation radio button? If you do it will speed up the render, even with a higher subdivs, like 24.

You can't use that option in animations however, because it will cause severe flickering. In that case, use LC for secondary passes and check the Use lightcach for glossy rays options.
