  • 1.5 DR problem

ive been really happy with the reliability of the new DR in 1.5 & i use it a lot. Until now ! it does not seem to support the vray displacement modifier - only the host computer will render with displacement & all the others render without it. another problem, less problematic issue i have is that sometimes it will not recognise standard lights or photometric lights unless you restart the spawners.

displacement is supported, are you sourcing your texture from correct path?
dr does have issues with photometrics.

I've also had problems with DR - proxies not rendering, even though the path is right and it's UNC.

I've done test scenes and they seem to be working ok, but in my 'client' scene, some nodes render them and some don't.

Yup - one machine was not updated, so seems to be OK now. I've never tried proxies. Photometrics seems to be ok (touch wood) so long as you are prepared to restart your spawners. However, i have also had Standard max spotlights that work ok in the Client, but did not work on the Server.
BTW, I have a concrete block wall that I am using and im getting black lines appearing on the corner (its a right angle corner) when I use displacement. I have tried varying a few of the parameters but to no avail -any ideas ? There are two vertical lines because I added a 10mm chamfer to the corner to try & solve the problem.....

it seems your displacement negative scale is pushing it inward too much.

Dropped it from 35mm to 10mm and seems ok now. thanks

Anyone know if there is a way when you do a DR to make the client machine NOT participate in the render (so you can continue working while the Servers do all the work) ?

you should isntead of send render vua dr, send it by backburner, so you could still work while you render the scene in another machine

problem is that I need several machines working on the same image simultaneously - in my experience backburner cannot do that with Vray. If you try rendering strips through backburner you dont get consistent results.

Your right - i just went through hell with DR because of (i think) some photometric lights. DR stopped working completely.

interesting...I've not had any problems with DR and photometrics here PROVIDED I have all the IES files pathed correctly. Just finished up a small animation using DR and photometrics....I'll keep an eye on it though.

yeah - I also completed a recent project which had some photometric lights in it. However, the new project wasnt so lucky. Only way to get DR to work was to turn off the PM lights. I tried deleting the lights and recreating them - with esxactly the same parameters - but the lighting effect was totally different ! (maybe its an issue with the physical camera)Also, at the end of the render, the Vray VFB crashed and I couldnt save the image. When I get time im going to send a file to Vlado !
