  • scene with thousands of light switches

    Hi,

I need to do a project where an interior needs to be made up out of only light switches. The image is for a light switch company

Now I was wondering if I use vray proxy of one light switch, and instance this across the whole scene (each wall, floor, furniture and even curtains will be made up of these objects), will it still work? Is there a problem with instancing one objects thousands of times or would I be better of with exporting a complete wall of switches for example as one proxy?

I haven't used proxies much so any info is appreciated, or maybe even new problems in 1.5 you might have had with it.

Also, is there a summary of known problems with 1.5 somewhere? I didn't visit the forum much since 1.5 came out and I'm not going to read all threads in here

Could you do it with a detailed texture and displace them? That would be a lot easier.

If not, I think you'll actually lose time by making a proxy of one switch. I'd just instance the suckers as necessary. Then, if the scene gets unbearable to move around in, make just a few vraymeshes, each containing a large group (all curtains, all walls in a room, etc.)

What you may want to do is build the switch, instance it to create your parent "objects", and then proxy those parent objects... that works better than thousands of instances of a smaller vray proxy
